You learned a lot about Memory today so why don't we review!
1. Everything has to go through Sensory Memory and Working Memory to get to Long-Term Memory.
2. Sensory Memory picks up mostly Visual and Auditory
Visual or Iconic Memory last for .5 seconds and Auditory or Echoic last for 2
3. Working Memory can only have 7 + or - 2 pieces of information, there is maintenance rehearsal and elaborative rehearsal, you get through by background knowledge (automaticity) and organization (mnemonics).
4. Long-Term Memory is unlimited, thing get encoded into here, that we know "that" and that we know "how." Things must be MEANINGFUL to get here.
5. Making Information Meaningful happens through organization, elaboration, and level of activity.
6. To improve Long-Term Memory we must block distractions (interference), go deep, relate to something you know (connections), learn both visually and verbally, and learn in many ways.
